NIS Lagos as a body leverage on new Technology

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is arguably one of the oldest organised professional bodies in Nigeria. NIS started in 1934 and its foundations were laid in Lagos State as the "Licensed Surveyors Association" under the able leadership of the late Nationalist, Herbert Macaulay. In 1960, the name was changed to the "Land Surveyors Association of Nigeria" with the state Late Surv. C.T. Olumide elected as its first president. Late C.T. Olumide is honoured every year by the Institution with a memorial Lecture.

Membership

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is the umbrella professional organisation for all surveyors in Nigeria, whether in private practice, Government or Academia.

NIS Lagos Membership

Fellow Membership

The Board of Fellows is composed of the Institution and serves as the highest body of membership with advisory and arbitration function.

Associate Membership

At least a First Degree or Professional Diploma/ Post Graduate Diploma in Surveying and Geoinformatics or its equivalent recognized by SURCON. HND in Surveying and Geoinformatics. Any person who has passed the SURCON examination for Technologist with at least two years’ post qualification experience

Full Membership

Any member who aspires to enroll as a member shall be one with SURCON Registration with active professional practice. He shall be entitled to the use of the designation MNIS (Member of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors).

Probationer Membership

Any person who passed SURCON Examination for Technologists, any person who passed SURCON Examination for Technicians with at least two years’ post-graduation experience, any person who has a National Diploma in Surveying and Geoinformatics approved by the INSTITUTION and recognized by SURCON 

Student Membership

Any individual who is currently undergoing a course of study in any approved institution of surveying in Nigeria
